For a Master Mason who seeks further light, the York Rite continues the work begun in the Blue Lodge.
The York Rite is not one organisation but several constituent bodies — each governed independently, each conferring its own degrees and orders, yet bound together in a single, progressive narrative. Together they teach the complete story of Ancient Craft Masonry: the building of King Solomon’s Temple, its destruction, and its rebuilding.
A Master Mason joins them in sequence — the Chapter, then the Council. Each opens a further degree of the Temple’s story, and each depends upon the others for its meaning. The Chapter recovers what was lost; the Council preserves what was hidden; the Commandery carries the work into the chivalric orders.
These bodies meet in Houston and work in alliance, each governed independently under its own Grand body. Other Chapters, Councils, and Commanderies meet elsewhere in this city; this house speaks only for its own.
