The Third Degree closes on a substitute — a placeholder, held until the true word is recovered. If that ending has ever felt like a door left ajar, the York Rite is where it opens.
The story is unfinished
The Third Degree ends on a substitution — something lost, something put in its place until the original is found. Most Master Masons never learn what happened next. The Royal Arch does not hint at the answer; it gives it.
Smaller rooms, longer conversations
A Chapter or Council is a fraction the size of a Lodge. You will not sit through a business meeting wondering who half the room is. You will be known, and you will be asked to do real work.
The degrees are worth the evening
Companions who have sat through both will tell you the Royal Arch is among the most beautiful degrees in Freemasonry. The Cryptic degrees are shorter, stranger, and stay with you. Neither is filler.
It asks little and returns much
A few evenings a year. Dues that cost less than a dinner. In return, the completion of a story you have already spent years inside — and the company of men who wanted to know how it ended.
The Requirement
A Master Mason in good standing. That is all.
There is no examination to pass and no one to impress. If you hold the Third Degree and your dues are current, you are eligible. Write to us and a Companion will answer.
